John Marston rides onto PC with the full single-player story of Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare, now in one package.
Overview
In 2024, Red Dead Redemption arrives on Windows as an action game, bringing John Marston’s hunt for the last members of the Van der Linde Gang to PC. It pairs the full single-player stories of Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare, with bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition. No multiplayer detours here—just a sharp, self-contained ride through the frontier.
You move through a third-person open world built around missions, free roaming, horse travel, and the occasional bad decision that turns into a gunfight. The game leans on Dead Eye, a slow-motion targeting system that lets you mark enemies before firing in a burst of controlled chaos. Around that, there’s bounty hunting, gambling, herb collecting, hunting, duels, and random encounters that keep the road feeling alive.
The PC version adds HDR lighting, native 4K resolution at up to 144hz on supported hardware, ultrawide and super ultrawide monitor support, adjustable draw distances, shadow quality settings, and more. It’s also the place to dig into Undead Nightmare, the zombie-horror companion story that sits beside the main game in the same release. Dust, gun smoke, and undead trouble—very polite company.

Beginner walkthrough
Move through the frontier
The game is played from a third-person perspective. Outside missions, you can roam freely across the open world, travel on horseback, or use trains and carriages to get around faster. Settlements range from farmhouses to crowded towns, while the land between them is full of travelers, bandits, and wildlife.
Fight with timing and cover
Gunfights let you take cover, aim freely, blindfire, and target specific body parts. Dead Eye slows time so you can mark multiple targets before firing in quick succession. Weapons include revolvers, pistols, rifles, shotguns, knives, explosives, and lassos, so there’s more than one way to make a bad day worse.
Use the systems around you
The Honor and Fame systems shape how NPCs react to you. Positive actions can raise Honor and lead to better treatment, while crimes and violent choices push things the other way. You can also disguise yourself with a bandana, and the game includes bounty hunting, dueling, gambling, hunting, herb collecting, and other side activities.
