Call of Duty®

Overview

Call of Duty® is a 2022 action release for Windows, built around a wider ecosystem rather than a single boxed campaign. It links Modern Warfare® 4, Black Ops 7 and Call of Duty®: Warzone™, so the fight keeps shifting from one style of combat to another.

Modern Warfare® 4 is framed as Warfare Without Limits, while Black Ops 7 promises the biggest Black Ops ever. Warzone™ brings the massive free-to-play arena, with Battle Royale, Resurgence and Black Ops Royale all under one roof. If you like your shooters with a lot of moving parts, this one arrives with plenty of them.

The Steam version includes single-player, multiplayer, PvP, online PvP, co-op, online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer, plus Steam Achievements, full controller support and captions. It also asks for a broadband connection and a hefty SSD footprint, which tells you this is not the kind of game that sneaks onto a tiny laptop and whispers politely.

Why play it

• Three linked Call of Duty experiences in one place
• Supports solo, co-op and competitive play
• Cross-platform multiplayer is included
• Controller support and captions are listed

Quick facts

Beginner walkthrough

Start with the linked experiences

The Call of Duty® package is built to support Modern Warfare® 4, Black Ops 7 and Call of Duty®: Warzone™. Rather than treating it like one closed box, think of it as a hub that points you toward multiple ways to fight, whether you want a full-scale arena or a more traditional Call of Duty setup.

Choose the mode that fits your mood

The listed categories make the structure clear: single-player, multiplayer, PvP, online PvP, co-op and online co-op are all part of the mix. Cross-platform multiplayer is included too, so the game is set up for both solo sessions and shared firefights. If you want the social side, it is there; if you want to go alone, that route is there as well.

Make room and check the basics

This version asks for a 64-bit processor and operating system, broadband Internet connection and an SSD with 161 GB available space at launch. The minimum setup is Windows® 10 64 Bit, while the recommended setup is Windows® 11 64 Bit. In other words: clear some space before the action starts clearing your patience.

Key characters

• Modern Warfare® 4 linked experience

Modern Warfare® 4 is presented as a separate Call of Duty experience built around Warfare Without Limits.

• Black Ops 7 linked experience

Black Ops 7 is described as the biggest Black Ops ever, with Treyarch and Raven Software attached to it.

• Call of Duty®: Warzone™ free-to-play arena

Warzone™ is the large free-to-play combat arena, with Battle Royale, Resurgence and Black Ops Royale modes.

Our take

Call of Duty® on Steam is less a single-mode shooter and more a doorway into several parts of the series at once. The appeal is obvious if you want options: solo, co-op, competitive, cross-platform, and a free-to-play arena sitting alongside the premium entries. The trade-off is equally clear, with a demanding install and a Windows-only release.
