Amiga

Amiga, where custom chips met curious games

The Amiga arrived as a family of personal computers from Commodore, and it left behind a very particular footprint, sharp graphics, sampled sound, and a multitasking desktop called AmigaOS with Workbench. It was built for more than one purpose, but games became part of its identity. Our catalog holds 245 Amiga titles from 1984 to 2005, which is enough to make a sensible person browse for a while and then lose an afternoon entirely.

What the Amiga was made for

When the Amiga appeared, it sat among the mid-1980s machines with 16-bit or 32-bit processors, mouse-driven interfaces, and enough memory to do more than beep politely. Its custom hardware gave it sprites, a blitter, and four channels of sample-based audio, so graphics and sound had real room to breathe. Commodore sold nearly five million Amigas, and the platform became a home for games, creative software, music tools, and video work.

Where to begin in our catalog

If you want a first pass through our Amiga list, start with A Mind Forever Voyaging, A Prehistoric Tale, A Question of Sport, A-10 Tank Killer, and A.G.E.. Then move on to A.P.B., A320 Airbus, AAARGH!, Abandoned Places, Abandoned Places 2, Alfred Chicken, Alien Breed, Alien Breed 3D, and Alien Breed II: The Horror Continues. That mix tells the story nicely, from oddball ideas to action and adventure with plenty of personality.
