Mill Masters is the ancient mill game, nine pieces per side on a board of three nested squares, set in a medieval tavern. The goal is simple: form a mill of three pieces in a row and remove an enemy piece. The game goes through three phases: placing, moving and flying once you are down to three pieces. The computer plays at four levels using minimax search, and there is a championship of ten opponents with their own styles, a two-player mode, a short six-piece game, undo, hints and a daily mill puzzle. Boards and pieces in wood, pewter and glass unlock with coins. In the placing phase you put one piece per turn on an empty point. When pieces run out you move one piece per turn to an adjacent empty point along a line. Three of your pieces in a row on a line form a mill: immediately remove an enemy piece that is not in a mill. When you are down to three pieces you fly to any empty point. You lose with fewer than three pieces or when you have no move. Three repetitions of a position is a draw. Controls: on desktop, Click a point to place, or click a piece and then its destination; Z undo, H hint, P or Esc to pause; on mobile, Tap a point to place, or tap a piece and then a marked destination; large buttons for undo, hint and pause. What is inside: All three phases: placing, moving and flying, with every mill rule and protection for pieces in a mill, Four computer levels with minimax search, from an easy novice to a deep-thinking master, A ten-opponent tavern championship with different play styles, A daily mill puzzle: capture within two moves against perfect defence, with a day streak, Two-player mode, a short six-piece game, undo and hints, Three boards and three piece sets unlocked with coins. FAQ
What is the difference between the phases?
In the placing phase you put one piece per turn on an empty point until your pieces run out. Then in the moving phase you slide one piece to an adjacent point along a line. When you have exactly three pieces left you enter the flying phase and may move to any empty point.
Which piece may I remove after a mill?
Any enemy piece that is not itself in a mill. If all enemy pieces on the board are in mills, you may remove any of them. After forming a mill, tap one of the pieces marked in red.
When does the game end?
You win when the opponent has fewer than three pieces in total (board plus hand) or is blocked with no move. Three repetitions of a position, or 60 moves without a placement or capture, is a draw.
What is the short 6-piece game?
The same board and rules but only six pieces per player. The phases end sooner, which suits a quick game on a phone.
How do the computer levels differ?
Novice looks one move ahead and sometimes picks at random. Medium thinks three moves, Advanced five, and Master searches as deep as its thinking time allows. The championship opponents also have styles: the Knight attacks, the Monk blocks and the Merchant counts pieces.
How does the daily mill puzzle work?
Each day there is the same moving-phase position for everyone. You must capture an enemy piece within two of your moves, even against the best defence, and a first-try solve earns three stars. The day streak grows and raises the coin bonus.
Do I need to download or sign up?
No. The game runs directly in your browser, with no account and no installation.
Where is my best score saved?
Only on your own device, in the browser’s local storage. It is never sent anywhere.
