Early Access

Early Access games, unfinished on purpose

Early Access is where a game arrives before the last coat of paint, and sometimes before the doors are fully hung. You get an immediately playable version while the developer keeps building, fixing and tuning. That means bugs, feedback loops and the odd rough edge, which is part of the deal. Our catalog has 2176 Early Access games, with release years ranging from 2013 to 2025, so there is plenty here for you to poke at, explore and follow as it changes.

What defines Early Access, and why players keep showing up

Early Access, also known as alpha access, alpha founding, paid alpha or game preview, lets you play during pre-release development stages such as pre-alpha, alpha and beta. The point is simple enough, even if the game is not finished yet. You get access to a working build, and the developer gets funding, testing help and feedback. In return, you may see special materials, extra rewards or your name in the credits. You also accept the risk that the journey may take a while, or not end neatly at all.

Because the game is already playable, Early Access can be a very direct way to watch an idea take shape. That is especially useful for indie projects, where funding and testing are often harder to secure. Players can help debug, suggest changes and spread the word, sometimes through social media or streams. It suits people who enjoy seeing systems in motion, flaws and all. The unfinished state is not a bug here, it is the point.

Where to start in our catalog

If you want a few names to begin with, look at {Undefined}, >//:System.Hack, 10 Years After, 141, 171, 2084, 7 Minutes in Hell, 7 Sins : Lost in Labyrinth, 9 Kings, 9Dragons : Kung Fu Arena, A Game of Humans and A Merchant's Promise. Those titles sit alongside a catalog that stretches from 2013 to 2025, so you can wander from older experiments to fresher arrivals without changing lanes. The range is half the charm.

If you like following developers, our catalog includes multiple games from Novalink, Steppe Hare Studio, T-Bull, David Moralejo Sánchez and MicroProse Software. That can make browsing feel less random and more like tracking a studio’s habits, which is useful if you enjoy seeing how an idea evolves across different projects. Early Access is often about momentum, so a familiar developer name can be a good place to begin.

FAQ

What is Early Access in games?

It is a funding and development model where players can buy and play an unfinished but already playable version of a game. Development continues after release into Early Access, and players may help by reporting bugs, offering feedback and sometimes getting extras as the game matures.

Why would someone buy an unfinished game?

Because the game is playable now, not just promised later. Some players like helping shape a project, following its progress or getting access to a game before final release. It is a tradeoff, though, since the game may still change a lot and may take time to finish.

Do Early Access games always get finished?

No. The model carries risk, because the game may never reach a final release. That is part of the bargain when you join early. The upside is that you can play while development is still happening, instead of waiting for a neat little box with a bow on top.

Where should I begin in your Early Access catalog?

A few clear starting points are {Undefined}, >//:System.Hack, 10 Years After, 7 Minutes in Hell, 9 Kings and A Merchant's Promise. They give you a slice of the catalog’s range without making you choose from 2176 games in one sitting, which would be impolite of us.
