Arcade

Arcade Games, Coin-Op Classics and Loud Buttons

Arcade, in this catalog, means 241 games built for the coin-op era, with release dates stretching from 1972 to 2010. That span covers the clatter of early cabinets through to later hardware heavy hitters, and the names here come from some of the medium’s most familiar makers. If you like your games with a credit slot, a timer, and just enough pressure to make your palms mildly suspicious, you are in the right place.

What Arcade Is Known For

This platform is home to the sort of games that made arcades a destination rather than a backdrop. The catalog includes action, sports, shooters, and driving games, all rooted in the arcade format. Capcom appears most often here with 48 games, followed by Taito Corporation with 19. Sega, Konami, and Namco each have 13. It is a neat cross section of the cabinet age, with plenty of familiar logos on the marquee.

The oldest and newest entries in the catalog show how broad that run is, from 10-Yard Fight and 1942 to 18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker and 1944: The Loop Master. That is a long stretch of flashing lights, quick decisions, and the kind of game design that rarely waits for you to get comfortable. Arcade games were not built to be polite, and these are no exception.

Where To Start In Our Catalog

If you want a clean first pass through the catalog, start with 1942, 1943: The Battle of Midway, and 1941: Counter Attack for classic shoot-’em-up tension. Then try 19XX: The War Against Destiny and 1944: The Loop Master if you want the series pushed further along. For something different, 10-Yard Fight, 720 Degrees, and 3 Count Bout show how the arcade handled sports and competition with its usual impatience.

There is also room here for more unusual stops. 64th. Street: A Detective Story brings a side-scrolling beat-’em-up edge, A.B. Cop leans into police action, and 18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker goes straight for the road. If you like your arcade history with a bit of variety, 88 Games and 800 Fathoms are worth a look too. The catalog has enough range that wandering is almost a strategy.
