Xbox 360

Xbox 360 games, from launch-era blockbusters to cult favourites

Microsoft Xbox 360 gave us a big, busy slice of seventh-generation gaming, and our catalog mirrors that era neatly, with 235 games released from 2005 to 2012. It is the sort of platform where blockbuster names, online play, and a steady flow of new releases all sit in the same queue. You can move from military shooters to anime-styled brawlers to sprawling stealth-adventure sequels, which is either variety or a mild identity crisis, depending on your mood.

What the Xbox 360 is

The Xbox 360 is Microsoft’s home console, the successor to the original Xbox and the second machine in the Xbox series. It launched in 2005 and arrived worldwide in stages through late 2005 and 2006. As a seventh-generation console, it sat in direct competition with Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii. Xbox Live also helped define the system, bringing online multiplayer, downloadable games, demos, music, television, films, and more into one familiar box under the TV.

Microsoft later released redesigned versions of the console, including the Xbox 360 S in 2010. The platform became known not just for games, but for making the living room feel like a place where everything happened at once, sometimes loudly, and often with a controller in hand.

Where to start in our catalog

If you want a place to begin, start with names that still jump off the page. Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed II, and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood show the series at three different points in its early run. Alan Wake brings a darker tone, while Army of Two heads straight for co-op action. For something more explosive, try Battlefield 2: Modern Combat and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Then there is Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, Armored Core 4, Armored Core V, and Asura's Wrath, which all lean into the platform's taste for big spectacle and bold ideas.

Our catalog also includes Afro Samurai, All-Pro Football 2K8, and Battle Fantasia, so you can wander from licensed style to sports to fighting games without leaving the console. With developers like EA, Neversoft Entertainment, Ubisoft, FromSoftware, Inc., and Omega Force appearing again and again, the library has a familiar backbone, but plenty of odd corners worth poking into. That is usually where the best surprises hide.
