Xbox games worth loading up

Microsoft Xbox arrived in the United States in November 2001, and our catalog follows that first wave and the years after, from 2001 to 2007. That means 234 games across a compact, very specific era of console history. You can watch genres and ideas shift in real time, from licensed action to sports to squad-based shooters. It is the sort of library that rewards curiosity, and occasionally reminds you how many games once thought a grenade was enough of a personality.

What Xbox is

Xbox is Microsoft’s gaming brand, first introduced with the original console in November 2001. The name now covers several home console lines, plus services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming, Xbox network, and Xbox Game Pass. In this catalog, though, the focus is the original Xbox era, when developers built for a machine that borrowed heavily from PC ideas and arrived with a clear purpose, to be a serious place for games, not just a box under the television with opinions.

The platform’s library in our catalog runs from 2001 to 2007, which gives it a neatly bounded feel. You can see the hardware’s life cycle reflected in the dates alone. Some studios turn up again and again here, including EA, Pandemic Studios, Team Ninja, Ubisoft, and Criterion Games. That repeat presence says a lot without needing a speech, the Xbox was a place where familiar teams kept coming back with new excuses for chaos.

What to start with in our catalog

If you want a quick route into the catalog, start with names that keep showing up in Xbox conversation. 007: From Russia with Love, 007: NightFire, 50 Cent: Bulletproof, Alias, and American Chopper each point in a different direction, from spy fiction to music-branded action to TV-adjacent machinery. Then there is 25 To Life, Aeon Flux, Aggressive Inline, and Aliens Versus Predator: Extinction, which remind you how broad the library gets once you leave the front door.

Sports fans are covered too, with All-Star Baseball 2004 and 2K Sports Major League Baseball 2K7 in the mix. If you prefer something with a little more edge, try Alter Echo, 187 Ride or Die, or America's Army: Rise of a Soldier. That spread is the fun of Xbox here, plenty of recognizable names, plenty of different moods, and enough variety to keep you from pretending you only came for one genre.
